A Place to Begin
Reaching out for therapy can feel like both a big step and a turning point. Please keep reading to find out more about what to expect.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions take place in comfortable, spacious and light-filled therapy rooms in either Old Street (EC2A), North London (N19), or online via Zoom. If you decide to do therapy online, I would suggest finding somewhere quiet and comfortable in your personal space where you will have some privacy.
How long will it take?
As a guideline, short-term therapy can last for anything from 6 weeks to a year. If it goes on for longer than six weeks, we undertake it in stages with reviews between. Long-term therapy is often open-ended but, as a rough guide, can last between one and five years. Again, this is undertaken in stages, with regular reviews looking forward at how to move forward. All appointments last for 50 minutes and are often weekly. That said, nothing is set in stone; the important thing is that we negotiate an arrangement that we can both commit to.
How much will it cost?
Fees for short-term or long-term therapy are between £80.00 and £100.00 per session, and a session lasts 50 minutes. Child psychotherapy sessions are charged slightly differently due to the nature of the work. If you are enquiring about child psychotherapy, please get in touch, and I can explain how the payment structure.
How do I start?
Firstly, I would suggest we have a phone call or a video call. This can last, on average, between 20 and 40 minutes. This is the best way to decide if you feel you can trust me and ask any questions about the process, and we can see if our schedules align so we can commit to a weekly time. In our first session, we will set some time aside to speak about what fee you can afford and also look at the terms of the work.
Is it confidential?
Absolutely. Counsellors and therapists know the value of confidentiality because they have all had to go through the process that they are offering themselves before, and as part of their training.
When can I come?
Appointments are available in the daytime or evening. We will commit to the same time, on the same day, on a weekly basis.
Do I need to bring my own art materials?
No, all the materials are included in the cost of the sessions. I will store your artwork so it is easily accessible. Throughout our work together, and when we do reviews, we will use the artwork to look at the journey, allowing us time to reflect on what is working well and where to go next.
